A common occurrence for any poster printing designer is the creative rut. Sometimes, after designing all those layouts for color poster printing, you just run out of all those creative juices. While a temporary stall in creativity for poster printing is acceptable, a long time without that creative juice and creative drive can be trouble. That is why as a designer myself, I am going to give you some of my sure fire tips to get those creative juices back and get you into the game of designing stuff anew for poster printing. Let me start you off with my most favourite tip, taking a break from color posters.

• Take a break – If you just can’t get any kind of new ideas out of your head, it is really a good idea to take a break. You might feel guilty at first, but trust me taking a break is part of the process in designing for poster printing. Go out of your workplace. Get some coffee and go around the block. Relax at the lounge and just look at something that is not related to your work in poster printing. If you are able, try to do a little exercise and maybe even take a shower. All these things will basically reset and reboot your mind. In a lot of cases, you even can get a chance opportunity to get inspiration from something mundane while taking a break. So take a break, it’s a must.

• Look at something totally different – Besides taking a break, another way to get those creative juices flowing is to look at something totally different from color posters. Sometimes we get too deep into the world of color poster printing and design that you do not see anything but color posters and its design concepts. By taking your mind off that and looking at some totally different kind of work of art, you may be able to get some new ideas flowing through your mind.

So, instead of looking at examples of color posters, why don’t you look at other art forms such as sculptures, paintings, architecture and even other odd things like gardening designs. The other forms may be able to give you great new ideas that you never thought can be applied to color poster printing until that moment. That is why you should try to see other things, you never know what can jumpstart that creative drive.

• See your design from totally different angle – This is a great trick that you should try out as well. Sometimes, you can actually just try to see your design from a totally different angle to jumpstart your color posters. If you already have a basic layout, but don’t know what to do with it, you can try printing that out and then looking at it from different angles. Look at it upside down, inverted, in a mirror or at other different angles. You’d be surprised at how a design will look from a different perspective. Sometimes, it might look totally better on a different angle. So try this trick out.

• Destroy and remake your design – Finally, you might want to try to destroy and remake your design from scratch. I know this might look like a step back, but sometimes the actual initial poster design that you are making is the one that is holding your creative juices back. So if you are in a design rut for quite some time, I suggest that you destroy your current color poster design and remake it. Sometimes, in the process of recreation, you will do something different inadvertently that will get your design groove back. So try to recreate your designs and see what new ideas pop out. Trust me, the process of recreation can do a lot to your creative mind.

So what are you waiting for? Try out these tricks! You’ll be designing new and more creative designs for poster printing in no time after doing them.
