If you are a passenger or a driver the car is like a small room for you. If you are the driver it is a small room with a set of controls. And for you the car ride lasts the amount of time it takes you to reach the destination which can be a few minutes to a few hours or if it is a long drive maybe even a full day and more. Your interaction with the car as a passenger is very little, you get in sit down, maybe enjoy some interior accessories and then you get down. Not much happens other than that.

But if you are an air molecule about to get into the car then the car is not a small room for you. It is very different. It is more like a long tube that starts with suction and in the end you get pushed out. In the middle somewhere there is small compartment where an explosion takes place and everything catches fire. The journey of the air molecule is a brief but eventful one. It first goes into the air intake and then gets mixed with the fuel. The air mixture fuel is ignited in the engine cylinder where it explodes and this explosion generates the mechanical force that drives the car and its parts. Once the explosion is done the molecule will have reacted with the fuel and now would be transformed by a chemical reaction into a part of the molecule of the exhaust gas. And as this exhaust gas it must leave the car as soon as possible so that the next lot of fresh air and fuel can get into the engine cylinder.
