Scrapbook Ideas - Tips For Scrapbooking Enthusiasts

By Vicki Churchill - May 7, 2008

Whether you are new to scrapbooking or have been creating beautiful scrapbook page layouts for years there are always tips and scrapbook ideas that you may not have considered or heard of before. For anyone who is trying to come up with new scrapbook ideas finding tips and tricks that will save you money as well as give you inspiration is always a bonus. Paper Scraps When creating a scrapbook page layout you will always be left with scraps of paper that you would possibly have thrown away. One of the biggest money saving tips is NEVER throw your scraps away! Scraps can be used for so many different things. You can: -Use your scraps to cut out shapes using punches to decorate a page. -Create stunning matching boarders. -If you have large scraps you can use them with die cutting machines. -Create a mini scrapbook album purely from your scrap paper. -Cut letters out to form scrapbook quotes. -Mount pictures with scraps. Textured Paper You can change the look of any scrapbook paper by using different techniques. Often when trying to think up new scrapbook ideas you may feel like the paper you are using just does not look right. You can try tearing the paper to give it a different appearance. You will need to have a card stock base to attach your torn paper to. Tearing is probably one of the easiest ways to totally change the way a page layout looks. If you want a scrapbook page to look weathered and worn then you can try using fine sandpaper to create a rough texture to paper or card stock. Gently rub the sandpaper over the paper or card (a softer approach will be needed for paper) and you will begin to see some of the colour come off the scrapbook paper and scratches will appear giving it a worn feel. You can also crinkle a piece of scrapbook paper for an aged and antique appearance for your scrapbook ideas simply scrunch up the paper and then flatten it out again to give it a worn and lived in look. To make the creases really stand out you could also add a touch of colour by inking them. Mulberry Paper Mulberry paper is a beautiful textured scrapbook paper that can not only be used to mat and layer pictures and embellishments, but if you dampen the edges of mulberry paper and carefully ease the fibres apart it will look totally different. Eyelets When working with eyelets first of all ensure you are using a flat surface. If the surface is soft or cushioned the eyelet tools will not punch through.Use eyelets to secure vellum paper to scrapbook projects with no unsightly adhesive marks. If you ever have the misfortune of spilling your box of brads and eyelets, do not spend hours searching the floor, keep a magnet handy and use it to quickly collect them all up. When looking through your eyelets always empty them out onto a soft surface. The colour coating on eyelets can easily be chipped if dropped onto a hard surface. Knowing how to look after your scrapbook supplies will keep them as good as new for years to come.
