You all know that perennial plants live for more than two years. Some vegetables plants have edible leaves, stems etc that can be eaten apart from the vegetables grown on it, and these plants live for many years. Such plants are known as perennial vegetables. These plants need not be replanted in different seasons. but produce food for many year and they are easy to maintain, that's why it is said that these vegetables make lazy gardeners.

There are many kind of these vegetables that you can grow in your garden. The most popular among them are Asparagus, Rhubarb, Sorrel, Sunchokes and Artichokes. Remember that these vegetables will become established in a spot for many years, so first of all you should locate a spot for planting these vegetables, and the soil in the spot should be very fertile and rich.

The best diet which is recommended by most of the dietitians today, is to eat leafy vegetables. Growing various types of perennial spinach like Pacific spinach, Okinawan spinach, Ceylon spinach, Sisoo spinach, Brazillian spinach etc will give you the benefit of eating leafy vegetables, all through the year.

Including perennial vegetables in your diet has got lot of benefits. They are very nutritious and vegetable like asparagus have high contents of folic acid and vitamin K, relieves constipation, is good for the heart, is good for arthritis and asthma, lowers cholesterol, is a anti-cancer agent, prevents urinary infection etc. Similarly spinach is also a very nutritive vegetable, rich in vitamin A, good for people with diabetes and contains anti-cancer and anti-aging agents.
