Soundproof Acoustical Wall and Ceiling Panels

By Dr. Bob Orther - Aug 14, 2008

Acoustical wall panels are used in variety of sound conditioning applications. These absorbent panels are used to acoustically treat any room by absorbing the reverberation or echo in that space. This absorption is often referred to as deadening a room or sound conditioning it. Keep in mind that as a general rule Acoustical wall and ceiling panels are not soundproofing agents. In essence these panels reduce the amount of reverberation in a room or auditorium and also increases the speech intelligibility in that space.

Acoustic wall panels are used in a variety of applications such as commercial and home recording studios, home theaters, church sanctuaries, gymnasiums, and auditoriums.
In general any room or space that consists of all hard surfaces needs to have approximately 40% of the room covered with an absorbent non-reflective material.

One of the finest and most effective wall panels are the Echoless™ bonded cotton panel. These cotton panels have a higher NRC (noise reduction coefficient) than many higher prices panels on the market today. If you are building a studio or a home theater and are on a budget, the Echoless™ panels are the right panels for you. These panels are reasonably priced and provide a maximum of sound absorption and acoustical conditioning in any application.
At Soundproofing America we also carry the Silent Panels™ in the 1” and 2” variety, which not only absorb the sound, but they also block sound from passing through walls and ceiling. These multi functional panels are used in kennel and animal shelter applications as well cabana and pool areas where these panels need to be weatherproof.

The Silent Panels™ come in 2’ X 4’ panels that can also be used as soundproof ceiling tiles in a grid or T-bar ceiling situation. The Silent Panels™ are an extremely versatile weather resistant panel that has been used in a wide variety of wall, and ceiling applications.

We also carry a vast array of fabric wrapped panels that provide excellent sound absorption while providing a refined professional look for any Recording Studio or Home Theater environment. The American FG Fabric wrapped panel’s come covered in the Guilford FR-701 fabrics for that high-end professional look that studio and home theater people want. The American FG panels are custom made to meet your particular needs and they come in multiple edge details. The American FG panels are without a doubt our most refined and professional quality wall panels.

One of our most effective sound absorbing materials actually doesn’t come is a panel but in a very convenient and cost effective roll. This product is known as the Echoless Roll material and it can be used in many applications where a large amount of area needs to be covered and mere 2’ X 4’ panels will not due. The Echoless roll material has been used in auditoriums, church sanctuaries, gymnasiums and concert areas where sound must be absorbed on a much grander scale.
