The IP address or the Internet Protocol address is usually a twelve digit number, unique to every computer connected to the internet
. As an owner of a website or blog, you may want to keep track of your visitors, so that you can find out the reach of your website. You may want to know the person sending anonymous mail using only IP address, and hence you may often have wondered if there is any way to find out more about a person using only their IP address.
There is a way to get such information using a process known as Reverse IP lookup. To perform a reverse IP procedure your first requirement is to know the IP you need to trace. Suppose you are looking to find the IP address of the mailer from whom you received a mail, then for finding the IP address you need the full headers of the email message. The IP address of the sender will also be listed here.
Now that you have the Ip address you will have to visit a site which offers reverse IP services such as http://www.reverseip.in. Thus a reverse IP lookup yields a lot of useful information, which can be used to enhance the reach of your website or blog, or simply assist in helping pin down a spammer. Phishing/Scam sites often come in groups. If you find one do a Reverse IP look upto find the other scam sites hosted on the same server as the one you found.
Shared Hosting accounts are usually hosted under the same IP address. See who is using that web host before signing up or see who else is on your server. Parking Sites can be identified by the large number domains parked on their IP address. See who else is parked on that server. If you have received annoying or insulting emails
from someone on numerous occasions, that is considered internet harassment. On a worse scale, if you've ever been threatened in a single email, that as well is internet harassment.
